Season 5, #89 – Touchy Topics Tuesday

Michelle and Emily are joined by three members of Touchy Topics Tuesday: Tiffany Robertson (founder), Laurie Shannon, and Elizabeth Joseph.

This episode's recording was a little different with Emily in the studio and Michelle and guests "zooming" in. Michelle's son had been diagnosed with COVID and they were following the CDC guidelines. (He's fine now, thankfully.)

Michelle was drinking Inopia, a delightful Cotes du Rhone. And Emily drank a white burgundy, Macon-Villages Chenin Blanc. Can they finish the bottles on their own??

Tiffany shares how she created the organization Touchy Topics Tuesday in response to her teenage daughter's depth of despair and her questions regarding the lack of justice after the grand jury did not indict the officer to the shooting of Michael Brown in 2014.

From Touchy Topics Tuesday website

"Touchy Topics Tuesday™ is an ongoing cross racial
intentional integration model that serves as an “implicit
bias bootcamp” for those seeking to respond to racism
by exploring and confronting their biases towards
individuals with different lived experiences and
cultivate relationships."

Emily and Michelle along with Tiffany, Laurie, and Elizabeth have an intimate, frank conversation about racial biases, ignorance, uncomfortable spaces, how you play into other people's experiences and your responsibility with that.

They talk personal responsibility, institutional responsibility, cultural responsibility and how to personally grow and use that growth to make change institutionally and culturally.
